Real Madrid defeated Cádiz courtesy of goals by Militão and Kroos in the last clash at the Bernabéu in 2022.

Real Madrid secured three points against Cádiz on matchday 14 of LaLiga ahead of the break for the World Cup, as the Whites brought the first part of the season to an end in style with a victory in front of the Santiago Bernabéu faithful. Militão and Kroos, with a fine strike, sealed an 11th triumph of the campaign for Carlo Ancelotti‘s men in LaLiga, which will resume on 30 December.

The madridistas dominated the play throughout the 90 minutes and first went close in the second minute when Tchouameni’s effort from outside the area narrowly missed the target. Shortly after, Ledesma denied Rodrygo after some neat link-up play with Vini Jr. Cádiz then came within a whisker of breaking the deadlock when Espino’s left-footed shot shaved the crossbar.

Foul on Rodrygo
The intensity of the game went up a notch and, in the 28th minute of play, a clear foul by Fali on Rodrygo, which Soto Grado failed to see and was not checked by the VAR, led to Vini Jr. squaring up to the Cádiz centre-back and both players were subsequently booked. The hosts continued to dominate the proceedings and on 40’ Militão made it 1-0. Kroos swung in a pinpoint cross to the far post to pick out the Brazilian who lost his marker and headed low past Ledesma.

Our team wanted more and Lucas Vázquez was close to getting it after the restart with an outside of the boot shot. Courtois was sharper than Sobrino in a head-to-head in the 53rd minute and it was in the following play that Real Madrid troubled their opponents’ area. Modrić, Vini Jr., Lucas Vázquez and Valverde launched a rapid break which culminated with a shot from the Uruguayan which Iza blocked on its way to the back of the net.

Fine goal by Kroos
The madridistas pinned Cádiz back and in the 70th minute Kroos doubled the hosts’ lead. After a corner, the German latched onto a rebound off Iza and fired in an unstoppable strike of the half-volley that flew past Ledesma. The game was now being played at a frantic pace and Modrić then missed an open goal on 79’ after a fine piece of play by Vini Jr. as they missed the chance to make it 3-0. Two minutes later, they were made to pay the price as the visitors pulled a goal back through Lucas Pérez on 81’. The home side managed to see out the final minutes as Real Madrid signed off 2022 with a win at the Bernabéu.
