36th league special
Real Madrid continue to increase their dominance in a competition which they won with 4 games to spare.
Real Madrid won their 36th league title on 4 May 2024. Our team clinched the trophy thanks to a 3-0 victory over Cádiz, with four games to spare. A week later, they received the championship trophy, took it to the Madrid Regional Government and City Hall and celebrated with the fans with a big party at Cibeles. The celebrations culminated with the presentation of the trophy at the Santiago Bernabéu before the match against Alavés.
Ancelotti's side took a firm foothold at the top of the table from matchday 18 onwards, producing stunning performances in both attack and defence. They were the team which conceded the fewest goals, beating their clean sheet record, and scored the most goals in the league. Notable among their top scorers were Bellingham, who had an impressive first year as a Real Madrid player, and Vini Jr, who also played a key role in winning the trophy.
Much of the credit for winning the league goes to the fact that our team had to overcome serious injuries to key members of the squad, including Courtois, Militão and Alaba. The goalkeeper was injured in training in pre-season, Militão in the first league game against Athletic and Alaba in December against Villarreal.
Key games
There are several games that stand out in this the 36th La Liga victory, such as the two Clásicos played this season. In Montjuïc, the madridistas came from behind with a Bellingham brace in his first Clásico with the club (1-2). The second time they met, at the Santiago Bernabéu in the second half of the season, they proved once again what our team is made of with another impressive comeback that saw them go 11 points clear at the top of the table (3-2). Other crucial victories came against Girona, a team with whom Madrid were vying for top spot for a number of matchdays. Ancelotti's men won 3-0 at Montilivi and won 4-0 at the Bernabéu.
Nacho, Modrić and Ancelotti enhance their legendary status
‘We've been a very consistent and competitive team, who never gave up,’ explained Nacho after winning the title. ‘We have to enjoy this title because it was hard work,’ added Carvajal. After winning La Liga, Nacho and Modrić drew level with Macelo and Benzema as the Madrid players with the most trophies in the history of our club (25). Ancelotti also became the coach with the second most trophies in Real Madrid's history, with 12.
