Today marks 86 years since Real Madrid lifted their seventh Spanish Cup Barcelona were the rivals in the final, which took place on the 21 June 1936 at Mestalla. Madrid went ahead early in the game thanks to goals from Eugenio and Lecue, but Escolà's strike with 29 on the clock made it a tight game right to the end. The match was Ricardo Zamora's last as a madridista, and he produced a string of fine saves which proved vital in claiming the title.
Ahead of the Mestalla meeting, our team overcame Arenas Club in the last 16, with the tie going to a decider. In the remaining two-legged matches, our team were too good for Athletic (quarters) and Hércules (semi-finals). The squad was led by Francisco Bru.
