Real Madrid picked up three important points at San Mamés in the LaLiga matchweek 21 fixture. Nacho, who played the full 90 minutes, commented: "It was a great performance from the team and we're happy to pick up the three points. The game started at a high intensity and we managed to catch them on the counter-attack and got both goals very quickly".
"They hit back quickly too, but we were able to keep solid at the back. We caused them problems when we went forward. All in all, it was a good performance".
Widening the gap at the top of the table
"It's important to have the lead, but it doesn't count for anything at the moment. It's too early. There's still half of the season to play. We're happy with how the team is going, but we have to keep winning games. It's important to approach matches like this when there are so many players out. Everyone who played today did well and that says a lot about what a great squad we have".
Lucas Vázquez: "Everyone's hard work earned us the three points".
"We're happy with the win and the way the team worked. It was a great atmosphere to play in. We displayed great character and personality".
"It was a complete performance by the team from start to finish, both in attack and defence. There were spells in which we controlled the game very well. We knew they had a lot of impetus, especially in the second half, and we were able to dig in. We pulled together, from Thibaut to Karim, and we were all committed to the cause. We got the three points to take home thanks to everyone's hard work".
"We knew it was essential to be switched on from the off. The team came out focused on controlling the ball and showing some versatility when attacking the opposition's goal. Karim scored two great goals to put us ahead. The match was easier from then on and in the end we managed to get a good win".
Path to follow
"That gap motivates us even more. We're aware of what we have to do to stay on this path. We don't want to drop off one bit and we want to keep moving forward picking up many more wins; we don't want to let this stop".
Applause for Benzema at San Mamés
"I didn't notice because I was caught up in the game. Karim is a player that we should be applauding every time he steps on and off the pitch".
