Real Madrid take all three points against Rayo in the rearranged Primera Iberdrola matchday 18 clash.

Real Madrid collected another valuable three points as the team recorded its 17th win of the league campaign. Alberto Toril‘s side emerged victorious from Vallecas courtesy of an 89th-minute winner from Olga, in the rearranged fixture corresponding to matchday 18 of the Primera Iberdrola. This was Madrid’s first of two games away from the Alfredo Di Stéfano this week and a win from the first outing will boost confidence for the second fixture.

The madridistas got off to a strong start, going close in the 11th minute through Esther’s header from a left-wing cross by Svava. The host gradually began to carve out more and more chances and on 31’ Millene won the ball back before trying her luck from distance, but her effort missed the target. Rayo continued to attack and created two clear scoring chances for Millene and Pauleta, but Misa came to Madrid’s rescue. The visitors responded on the stroke of halftime, when Zornoza’s long-range strike sailed wide.
Olga nets the winner
The visitors soon created openings after the re-start, after the introduction of Ivana, Asllani and OrozEsther and Zornoza both came a whisker away of breaking the deadlock and the Whites kept looking to find a way through in the early stages of the second half. On 59’, Esther found the net, but her goal was ruled out for offside. Toril’s charges were now in total control of the game as Asllani‘s strike almost opened the scoring. In the 80th minute, the Swedish striker found herself one-on-one with Yohana, but the goalkeeper was on hand to keep her side in the game. However, the madridistas’ persistence paid off in the last minute of normal time when Olga headed home Ivana’s deep cross at the back post. Madrid secured another vital three points to move level on points with Atlético and UDG Tenerife in the Women’s Champions League spots.
