Real Madrid continue to march forward in the Club World Cup and tonight face a new, even more demanding challenge. The quarter-finals of the competition are here, again a one-legged match, and Borussia Dortmund await at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey (10pm Spanish time, 4pm local time). It will also be a repeat of the Decimoquinta final.

After eliminating Juventus in the round of 16, it will be the second meeting this season against another European team (we won 5-2 on matchday three in the first phase of the Champions League) to book a semi-final berth, where another team from our continent will be waiting for Xabi Alonso's side: PSG or Bayern, who face off this afternoon. To achieve this, our team wants to continue the positive run of form and results they have enjoyed in this Club World Cup, in which, after drawing the opening fixture, they have now won three successive games.

“We're up for it and we want to keep progressing in this Club World Cup”, said Xabi Alonso at the press conference ahead of this Club World Cup quarter-final. It will be our new coach’s fifth match at the helm of Real Madrid and he is looking for his fourth consecutive victory after his debut finished all square. In addition, our team have scored in every match of the competition, and have finished with a clean sheet in the last two.

Borussia Dortmund
The German side go into the game with a very similar record to Real Madrid. They drew their opening game against Fluminense and then beat Mamelodi Sundowns (3-4) and Ulsan HD (1-0) to finish top of Group F. They reached the quarter-finals after knocking out Monterrey (2-1). Guirassy, who scored twice against the Mexican side, is the team's top scorer in the competition (3 goals) and also the player with Borussia Dortmund’s most shots (17).
