All out to secure top spot

PREVIEW. 06/11/2021

Real Madrid host Rayo with the aim of picking up three points and moving top of LaLiga (9 pm CET).

This evening Real Madrid return to league action and for the first time in three seasons welcome Rayo Vallecano to the Santiago Bernabéu (9 pm CET) on matchday 13 of the competition – the side’s second fixture of the week on home soil. After Wednesday’s win over Shakhtar, the Whites will be vying to pick up a third straight victory and move top of LaLiga.

The previous round of league fixtures saw Vini Jr. take centre stage with a brace to secure the three points against Elche and in Madrid’s midweek Champions League clash it was Karim Benzema’s turn to score a match-winning double, with both goals being assisted by the Brazilian. Both forwards are on fire and the Frenchman grabbed the winning goal the last time our time met Rayo (1-0).

“We need to put in a complete performance”, said Carlo Ancelotti in the press conference ahead of the clash. This fixture will bring back fond memories for Toni Kroos, who scored his first goal for Real Madrid seven years ago (8 November, 2014) against Rayo Vallecano at the Santiago Bernabéu and the German has been named in the Italian’s squad for the game.

European places in sight
Rayo have had a sensational start to the season. The newly promoted side from south-east Madrid currently sit in the European qualification places and go into the weekend in sixth place, on 20 points. Andoni Iraola’s side play an open attacking game which has seen them score 18 goals so far this campaign. Rayo have drawn against Celta and beaten Barcelona in recent fixtures. The club’s start signing, Radamel Falcao, and Álvaro García are the team’s top scorers with four goals apiece, while captain Óscar Trejo has produced six assists.
