Laso: “It wasn't our best game and I hope it serves us for the future"

“We started strongly but in the other three quarters we didn't read the game well”, explained the coach.

Pablo Laso assessed the game between Real Madrid and Gran Canaria at the WiZink Center on matchday seven in the league: “The scoreboard by quarters reflects exactly how the game went. We started really well both in defense and offense but in the other three quarters, we didn't read the game well. We made lots of mistakes, and alongside our accuracy disappearing, we just never felt in control”.

“The game was very tight but then they opened up a 10-point gap. In the end we got a bit closer but Slaughter's shooting and some of our sloppiness handed them the win. It's a game I look at over the 40 minutes more than in the closing stages. It wasn't our best game but I hope it will serve us for the future".

“Tavares put in a good performance all round. He made the least mistakes and that's reflected in his numbers. On a day like this, nobody goes home happy to have lost and I'm frustrated that Tavares 300-game milestone has been marred by the defeat".

What did the team lack?
“First, we lost too many balls. If you lose 18 in a game, it's tough to win it. Then there were situations in defense that we should have dealt with better and we lacked accuracy on free shots. I'm critical because we were unable to make the team aware of the importance and the difficulty of this match and that has seen us manage it poorly”.
