In the 1996/97 season, the forward scored a goal that helped win the title.
This week, on Historic Goals, the protagonist is Raúl. After making it to the first team in 1994 having shone in the youth teams, he became a madridista icon. He had an insatiable hunger for scoring goals and was known for his grit and work ethic throughout his years at the club.

Real Madrid hosted Atlético de Madrid on match day 41 in a derby to decide the league winner. The Whites won in front of the home crowd. Raúl scored the opener, as he latched onto to a cross close to the penalty spot, controlled the ball and beat his man before placing the ball out of reach of Molina in goal.
Raúl played a total of 16 seasons for the madridistas, racking up 741 appearances, scoring 323 goals and lifting 16 titles: three European Cups, two Intercontinental Cups, a UEFA Super Cup, six LaLiga crowns and four Spanish Super Cups
