NEWS | 28/09/2019“It was an extremely physical game", said the captain following his 40th derby appearance.
Ramos' first appearance against the capital rivals came in the 2005/06 LaLiga campaign, when Real Madrid took all three points at the Vicente Calderón (0-3). Since then, the captain has enjoyed several fantastic derbies, most notably the ones which yielded La Décima and La Undécima. Aside from the goals he scored in the Lisbon and Milan finals, he has found the back of the net on four other occasions against Atlético.
After the draw in his 40th derby, Ramos said: “It was an extremely physical game. We knew the Wanda is one of the toughest places to come all season and our aim of taking all three points wasn't to be. We've kept a clean sheet and created chances. Atleti are a very solid team, we had Benzema's effort, but the point is a bit underwhelming. We're still unbeaten though and have to keep it up”.
“It's what we’ve been working on, the solidity and organisation at the back is very important. Any point we can add to our tally is crucial, but it feels like we should have had more after doing such a great job. Thankfully, the team is in very good shape and we must keep it going”.
Conversation with the referee
“I spoke with him about the cards. They are the referees and they have to decide, but we received more cards, if I'm not mistaken, with them having made more fouls, but that's a secondary issue”.
