Real Madrid won their fourth consecutive European Cup with a 2-0 victory over Stade de Reims on 3 June 1959. Both teams relived the final of the first edition of the competition, but this time with the Neckarstadion in Stuttgart as the scenario and with our team registering a more comfortable result. Real Madrid took the lead after just two minutes with a goal by Mateos and, after the break, Di Stéfano made it 2-0.
On the way to the final, Real Madrid beat Besiktas, Wiener SK and Atlético Madrid. The semi-final meeting with Los Rojiblancos was the first European derby and a play-off match was needed to decide the finalist. The match was played in Zaragoza and the Madridistas won 2-1, with goals from Di Stéfano and Puskas. Years later, Real Madrid would win the European Cup again on 3 June. It was in 2017, when they won the Duodécima against Juventus.
