Defence will be key tonight, more than ever. Madrid is performing at an increasingly high level in this respect. They held two teams of the stature of Fenerbahçe y Valencia Basket to 71 and 62 points respectively last week. Monaco are also a very offensive team with big scorers in Mike James, Okobo and Loyd. On top of that, they'e one of the most physical teams in the competition, enabling them to rebound well and lead the league in steals. Another interesting aspect will be the battles on the inside and at the small forward position featuring the Deck-Diallo pairing. Tavares and company will have a tough task with the visitors' inside game that mixes the versatility of Moerman and John Brown with the strength of Hall and Motiejunas.
Very deep roster
On average, Madrid scores more and concedes less than Monaco. Their strength comes from their roster, which will once again be essential to overcome their opponents. They are increasingly consistent in an attack where everyone contributes. Musa leads the line, with the Bosnian leading the team in scoring (14.9 points per game) followed by Deck (12.9) and Tavares (11.1). Over the course of the game, however, the likes of Hezonja, Llull, Poirier will come to the fore...The sides have only met twice in the past, with Madrid winning both of them last season. The second game of a series of three in a row at home will take place tonight.
