A goal by Esther handed Real Madrid the three points against Betis at the Alfredo Di Stéfano.

Real Madrid recorded their third win in the space of nine days after defeating Betis at the Alfredo Di Stéfano to make it five straight victories in the league. The game was an evenly-matched affair until the madridistas found a way through when Esther scored in the second half, as Alberto Toril’s side continue to climb the league table and edge closer to the Champions League spots.

The Whites got off to a good start, pressing high up the pitch, and Esther went close for the visitors early on with a header that came back off the crossbar. Betis then tested Misa with a long-range strike which the keeper caught comfortably (15’). Moments later, Asllani came close to opening the scoring on two occasions. First, Athenea burst down the right wing and swung in a fine cross, but the Swedish striker could not get on the end of it, and on the half-hour mark, the forward got her head on a cross by Zornoza but her effort went just wide of the post.

Esther breaks the deadlock
After the re-start, the game began in similar fashion, with both sides looking to break the deadlock. The first chance of the half fell to Real Madrid after smart play by Asllani saw the forward one-on-one with Thalmann, but the goalkeeper did well to pull off the save. After an hour of play, Zornoza fired a free-kick narrowly off target from the edge of the area. But the madridistas’s insistence paid off in the 69th minute when a sublime through ball by Zornoza played in Esther who made it 1-0 to Madrid. Soon after, Møller almost doubled the Whites’ lead, but the hosts’ keeper was on hand to save. Madrid held on to pick up another three points.
