Real Madrid clinched the world champions trophy in 2002 after beating Club Olimpia de Asunción.

Today marks the 19th anniversary of Real Madrid's third Intercontinental Cup triumph. On 3 December 2002, the Whites won their third of seven world champion trophies and it came in the year of the club's Centenary. It was the end of a glorious 2002 in which the club clinched the Novena and their first European Super Cup.
Ronaldo was one of the star performers in the match against Club Olimpia de Asunción, as his goal gave Madrid the lead in the 14th minute. The Brazilian's performance earned him the man of the match award, while Guti got the other goal. The playmaker headed home to make it 2-0 at the Yokohama International Stadium.
