The team

Tournament hosts Kashima Antlers qualified for this year's Club World Cup, which is being staged in their native Japan, by lifting the J. League title after a two-legged success over the Urawa Red Diamonds. Mū Kanazaki, who hit a double in the second leg, is one of the key cogs in the Japanese outfit's system. The club boasts an honours list featuring 23 domestic titles, which includes eight league crowns and five Japanese Super Cups.

After running out 2-1 aggregate winners over Independiente del Valle, Atlético Nacional claimed the Copa Libertadores crown and with it sealed their place at the Club World Cup in Japan. Atlético are Colombia's most decorated side, as reflected by their 26-strong title haul, a return which has earned them the nickname as the "King of the Cups". Spearheading the Colombian side's attack is Miguel Borja, who at 23 has become his side's main marksman.

The team

The Mexicans will contest the Club World Cup on the back of their Concacaf triumph, which saw them ease past Tigre 4-1 in a two-legged showpiece staged at the iconic Estadio Azteca. This tournament marks Club América's third participation at a Club World Cup in the wake of their unsuccessful bids to seal the crown in the 2006 and 2015 editions.  They have an added incentive to claim the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup title in this, their centenary year.

The South Korean outfit sealed their place at the Club World Cup - for the second time in their history - after lifting the Asian Champions League following a 3-2 aggregate win over Al Ain. Founded in 1994, Jeonbuk Motors have become one of South Korea's most successful sides, with four K League Classic titles to their name. For the first time in their history, South Africa's Sundowns will be representing the African continent at the Club World Cup. The Pretoria-based team took the CAF Champions League after overcoming Egyptian side, Zamalek in the final. Sundowns enjoyed their first-ever league title success in 1988, and since then, have gone on to add a further nine domestic titles to their haul. As an interesting fact, 11 members of Sundown's squad chipped in with goals during their side's successful Champions League campaign.

The team

New Zealand's Auckland City boast the honour of being the side with the most Club World Cup experience. Despite having only been founded in 2004 and their status as a semi-professional outfit, they have established themselves as one of the leading sides throughout Oceania.  They came into the tournament on the back of a clean sweep of victories, with a squad full of experience and ably led by coach Ramón Tribulietx, however they bowed out in the play-off following a 2-1 reverse at the hands of Kashima Antlers.
