INTERVIEW | 20/10/2014“I've told my team-mates to enjoy the match at Anfield as much as possible,” he added in an interview given to UEFA.
Real Madrid face Liverpool on Wednesday on matchday three of the Group Stage of the Champions League (8:45pm CET). In an interview given to UEFA, Álvaro Arbeloa looked back over the two-and-a-half seasons he played at the English club and on the Whites' performances in the competition. He also highlighted how special a match at Anfield will be.
What is your first memory in football?
I always particularly remember that final with the great goal scored by Zidane, because it was also the year that I came to Real Madrid. That match, with the team winning La Novena, was fantastic.
What has been the best moment of your career?
It's hard to choose one. Everyone remembers their debut. Doing that with the Real Madrid of Zidane, Figo, Raúl, Ronaldo... it was huge. Playing with those footballers, who were my idols, was very special.
And the hardest moment?
Suffering injuries is hard, but one of the most difficult moments for me was the defeat in the final in Athens with Liverpool.
What match have you enjoyed most as a spectator?
As I said before, the night that Real Madrid won La Novena. But the history and the greateness of this team is based on its Champions League titles, and any win in the final of this competition deserves to be mentioned.
