The Cambodian schools have been chosen for the socio-educational tournament.

The Real Madrid Foundation's socio-sports projects in Asia celebrated the Alma Cup last weekend. A football tournament which promotes the universal values of team sport that the Real Madrid Foundation develops in its socio-sports projects and schools all over the world. On this occasion, the match was organised together with the NGOs Sauce and For Child’s Smile (PSE), local Foundation partners.

More than a hundred youngsters at risk of social exclusion, between the ages of 10 and 17, beneficiaries of the two socio-sports schools, participated in this tournament with a view to strengthening a sense of unity and becoming agents of change in building a better world.

The Apostolic Prefect of Battamban, Kike Figaredo along with the President of PES France, Ghislaine Dufour, attended the Soul Cup held at the PES headquarters in Phnom Penh, they were able to count on the participation of schools with PES and NGO Sauce in Battambang. The Real Madrid Foundation has been established in Cambodia since 2015 and working in partnership with the NGO Sauce, with whom the first ever inclusive school in Asia was set up. At the school, children with disabilities, as a result of accidents caused by landmines or polio, train together with non-disabled children from rural areas.

Just a year later, the second school was set up in Phnom Penh, where young people who used to work at the rubbish dump receive attention that is crucial to keeping them away from drug trafficking and prostitution networks. As part of their overall development, around 250 minors in the country currently benefit from these projects, which focus on promoting school support, psychosocial care as well as nutritional support.

Manager of the International Department of The Real Madrid Foundation, Rosa Roncal and trainer Francisco García travelled all the way from Madrid for this special occasion. In addition to the Alma Cup tournament, the trainer developed a face-to-face course for four coaches from PSE and 5 from Sauce. The nine coaches showed great dedication and willingness. Before he left Madrid, Roncal expressed how excited he was about returning to Cambodia after three years being unable to visit because of the COVID pandemic.
The Real Madrid Foundation started its socio-sports projects in India in 2011 and now has twenty four projects in seven countries and boasts more than 2,500 beneficiaries.
