The Real Madrid Foundation was one of the winners at the Laureus Awards 2022. The Sport for Good Society category recognised the Real Madrid Foundation's efforts in helping to develop society and young people around the world thanks to sport, which it has been doing since 1997. The Real Madrid Foundation becomes the first winner of this category.
Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez gave his thanks for the award: "This acknowledgement for the Real Madrid Foundation is a great honour both for our club and for the millions of madridistas who feel proud of the huge charitable work that we carry out, reaching every corner of the world. The award is a big boost to all of those who tirelessly work every day to improve the quality of life of the most vulnerable in our society, especially children at risk of social exclusion".
"I always maintain that the Real Madrid Foundation is the soul of our club, all the values that have made Real Madrid the most loved and admired club in the world are represented within it. It's also the first time that a Laureus Award has been granted to an organisation in recognition of the work it carries out to improve society by promoting the values of sport. You all know that this badge never gives up and it will continue to be needed the most".
Rafa Nadal presented the award to the Real Madrid Foundation during the virtual gala. The Real Madrid honorary member said: "This award goes to an organisation which uses the values of sport to help improve society. They understand that sport is more than just physical exercise. I'm thrilled that the winners are not only from Spain, but are linked to a club that I love". Butragueño, Raúl, Casillas and Figo accompanied Florentino Pérez at the ceremony.
