Real Madrid head to the San Mamés tonight for their final game of the year. The LaLiga leaders take on Athletic in the matchday 21 fixture (9:30pm CET) which has been brought forward due to the Spanish Super Cup. Our boys will be looking to close out 2021 with a win to continue their impressive fourteen-match unbeaten run (12 wins and two draws).
The game will be the second clash with Athletic this month. Ancelotti's team hosted the Basque side on 1 December, coming out on top 1-0. Since the encounter, the madridistas have gone five games without conceding a goal.

“The visit to San Mamés is a chance to demonstrate the quality of the squad", explained Ancelotti in the pre-match press conference. Casemiro joins a growing list of absentees having accumulated too many yellow cards. Meanwhile, LaLiga's top scorer with 13 goals Karim Benzema is indeed in the squad, and tonight he takes on opposition against whom he has already netted on 14 occasions in the championship.
Athletic come into the game having come from behind to beat Betis in the final seconds last time out. Marcelino's men have picked up five wins, nine draws and four defeats in LaLiga to date and are embroiled in a battle to secure a place in Europe. Their greatest threat up top comes in the form of Iñaki Williams, who has scored five so far, and Muniain, with the same number of assists. Our team have come away from the San Mamés with four wins and two draws in their last six league games.
