The Brazilian defender made his 500th outing at La Romareda. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since 7 January 2007, when he made his debut,against Deportivo la Coruña at Riazor. Since then, he has played a key role in the side's success, both in the final third, where he has netted 36 times and provided countless assists, and in defence.
Marcelo's next target is now to surpass his compatriot Roberto Carlos (527 appearances) in these standings. This would see him become the club's top foreign appearance maker. Ahead of him in the club's all-time appearance stakes are Raúl (741), Casillas (725), Sanchís (710), Santillana (645), Sergio Ramos (632), Gento and Hierro (601), Camacho (577), Pirri (561), Míchel (559) and Guti (542).
Marcelo has won everything going in a Whites' shirt. His outstanding trophy haul features 21 pieces of silverware: four Championes League and Club World Cups apiece, a trio of UEFA Super Cups, four LaLiga, titles, a pair of Copas del Rey and four Spanish Super Cups.
