"My idea is to retire at Real Madrid and with this contract extension I am closer to that challenge", said the Croatian midfielder.
After signing his contract extension with Real Madrid until 2020, Luka Modric appeared in the press room at the Santiago Bernabéu to speak with the media. A video with his best moments at the club was shown before the Croatian spoke: "It's a very special day for me. I feel very happy and excited to renew with Real Madrid, the best club in the world. I want to thank the club and the president for their confidence in me. I can promise that I will continue giving everything and work hard to meet the demands of the club. I hope we have more successes in the future".

"I think I've developed as a player in these four years. I have more experience than before and need to keep on the same path to help the team to play well both in defence and attack. I must continue at the same level".

"I feel good. Every day I feel better. I’m working a lot and hard to get back as soon as possible. I take each day as it comes and hope to return soon. I feel better, but I cannot say when I will be available again. It is a compliment that they say that my absence from the team has been note, but I prefer that others say things like that. It gives me confidence to work harder".

"It may be the best squad I have ever played in. We have a lot of quality and each position is covered by two or three players. It is an impressive squad. I haven't won the league yet and hopefully this is the year. You can say that it is our priority because for a club like Real Madrid to go four years without winning it is too long. That does not mean we do not want to win the Champions League, Cup and everything that we play in".

Every day I feel better and I’m working hard to get back as soon as possible”.

"My worst moment was the injury I had in 2014 in the femoral rectus muscle and the best moments are always the titles and my arrival at Real Madrid. If I have to choose one, I'll stick with my first Champions League, la Décima, which was very special".

Signing for Real Madrid
"There came a time at Tottenham where I had to change to improve and grow as a player. I've always had confidence in myself. I did not doubt my quality and I knew that sooner or later I would succeed here, working every day in training and in the games. I did not start well, but I never stopped believing in myslef. I came to the biggest club and the demand was very high".

"My relationship with the coach has been very good since the first day he arrived as coach of the first team, although when he was Ancelotti's assistant we also had a great relationship. I know what he is looking for from me and I try to do what he asks. He supports me every day, in every training session, even when I'm injured, and I'm grateful for that support".

"I hope it's not my last contract renewal. My desire is to retire at Real Madrid and with this renewal I am closer to that challenge, but it depends on many things. How I feel, what I contribution to the team...But my idea is to retire here".

Physical problems
"I'm not worried. When I analyse every injury, I see that I came back stronger. What I've been through are things that can happen in football. I feel good, I take care of myself a lot, and I'm not worried about getting older. I feel good. There may be people who think I'm old at 31 years of age, but I feel very good and I think I'm playing some of the best football of my life at this age".

"I have not thought what I'll do once I finish my career. There's still a long way to go. But I would like to continue linked to football".
