20 years since the inauguration of Real Madrid City
The world's best sports complex opened its doors on 30 September 2005.
Today marks 20 years since Real Madrid City opened its doors, and it continues to be a source of great pride for all madridistas. It was officially inaugurated on 30 September 2005, during the presidency of Florentino Pérez, and has continued to evolve ever since, to maintain its status as the best training ground in the world. “Real Madrid City will become a symbol for all this club has been and will be. Today, this dream comes true. Today, we break ground on where we will work every day to continue being the biggest club in history. It will be a key part of our footballing strength for this new 21st century and it will mark the destiny of Real Madrid," said the president at the unveiling.
Xabi Alonso's squad works here on a daily basis and their training camps take place at the residence. The basketball team has been fully integrated into Real Madrid City since 2016 thanks to the pavilion. This is where they train, and where the youth basketball teams play their competitive games and practice as well. The women's team also train and play their home games at Real Madrid City. The facilities, on which construction began back on 12 May 2004 with the laying of the first stone, also has the capacity to host other events including the Representative Members' Assemblies.
Real Madrid City is home to both the men's and women's academy football teams. Our youth teams' training sessions and matches are all held here. A highlight is the Alfredo Di Stéfano stadium, which honours the greatest player of all time and hosts Castilla, the women's first team and Under-19s matches in the UEFA Youth League.
Corporate office building
The corporate office building is another example of the growth of Real Madrid City. The move of all the club's workers and the Real Madrid Foundation to this building was completed in 2018. It has been designed to the highest levels of architectural and functional quality, underpinned by the basic values of simplicity, transparency, sustainability and modernity.
Agronomic laboratory
Real Madrid City also houses an agronomic laboratory in order to study, test and adjust the innovative automated system that manages the Santiago Bernabéu pitch. It consists of a 900 m² building, with an enclosure covered in an artificial turf roof.
Madrid Innovation District
The land at Real Madrid City is also set to house the Madrid Innovation District (MID), which was unveiled in May of this year. It is planned as an urban space for businesses, researchers and entrepreneurs to work together, exchange knowledge and foster innovative projects. The MID will be Europe's most significant technological district, a nerve centre designed to bring together talent and technology to shape the best possible future.
