How the press viewed Real Madrid's victory.
Real Madrid secured their passage to the semi-finals of the Champions League thanks to a Chicharito goal in the 87th minute of the match. Both the Spanish and the Mexican press underlined Ancelotti's team's great performance and, in particular, the forward's goal.

In Spain, Marca called the goalscorer “the hero of the night. The Bernabéu was sent into raptures thanks to the Mexican striker, who cried after scoring”. Meanwhile, As ran with: “Chicharito is the name of the hero. He played as if he's always known it, as of last night we know it too”.

El Mundo, which printed the Whites' triumph on its front page, wrote: “Chicharito, the providential hero does it for Real Madrid”. El País ran with “a Chicharito goal deservedly sees off an Atlético side holding on for dear luck”.

One of the big daily newspapers, ABC, stressed: “The Mexican, who put on a great display of how to lose a marker and how to fight, got the supporters behind him and decided the game”. La Razón summed up Ancelotti's men's success thusly: “Chicharito is worth a final. Madrid dominated the game and were once again frustrated by Oblak. That was until the 88th minute, when the Mexican scored and Atlético were down to ten men”.

L’Equipe highlighted that “Chicharito won it for Real Madrid”. The Guardian went with: “Javier Hernández struck two minutes from time”. In Italy, La Gazzeta dello Sport pointed out: “A Chicharito goal decides the tie two minutes from time”.

Headlines in Mexico
Chicarito was praised by the press in his homeland. El Universal emphasised how great his performance was: “The striker seals Real Madrid's passage to the semi-finals”.  Daily newspaper 24 horas stated: “Chicharito Hernández made the most of his start, his goal got Real Madrid through to the semi-final of the Champions League”.

Tamaulipas daily El Mercurio reads: “Chicharito was in the search of glory throughout the night”. The Milenio Diario ran with “Javier Hernández scores the best goal of his career”. El Financiero described the scenes in the stadium as follows: "The Santiago Bernabéu, packed to the rafters with 82,000 fans, acclaimed Chicharito; they cheered, clapped, jumped around and shouted their heads off. It's hardly surprising". Meanwhile, Reforma went with: “Chicharito rewards the Whites with glory”.

Televisa underlined that Chicharito “covered ground, fought, pressured the opponents and scored the winning goal. He did everything he could have done in 90 minutes”. ESPN stated that Javier Hernández “provides Real Madrid with glory”. According to TV Azteca, "the Mexican is the hero for sending Real Madrid through to the Champions League semi-finals with a last-gasp winner”.
