Following on from the success enjoyed by the socio-sporting school in Panamá City, December 2014 saw a second Real Madrid Foundation socio-sporting school open in Panamá, in the city of Chitré. The foundation's activities are run from the Los Milagros municipal stadium, a facility which is managed by the Instituto Panameño de Deportes (Panamanian Institute of Sport).
The school began its operations in December 2014 after an institutional visit from Real Madrid president, D. Florentino Pérez, to the country.
The high school dropout rates and high levels of vulnerability amongst the children as a result of violence, saw consideration given to the need for a comprehensive intervention strategy in which sport is used as a tool for development and to promote health and healthy habits.
In addition to the sporting activities, which adhere to the Real Madrid Foundation's methodology on values training, the participants at this school receive continuous psychological attention, periodic medical checks to measure their height and weight changes, whilst they also take part in vaccination days. In addition, and depending on their academic results, the participants are offered school reinforcement classes in the subject areas in which they require it.
