Champions League last-16 tie kicks off with blockbuster bout in Paris

PREVIEW. 15/02/2022

Real Madrid travel to the Parc des Princes for the first leg of the tie (9pm CET).

Real Madrid are about to embark on the most important period of the season, in which every game can decide the destiny of a trophy, and they do so with a return to Champions League action. Our team visit the Parc des Princes tonight for the first leg of the round-of-16 meeting with PSG (9pm CET). This is a blockbuster bout between two sets of players who promise to serve up a fine spectacle.

This contest sees Madrid return to the setting where the club’s European legacy began, back in 1956. Paris’s Parc des Princes witnessed our club secure its maiden European Cup crown. In more recent times, the madridistas have travelled to face PSG in the group stage of the 2015/16 and 2019/20 campaigns and in the last 16 of the 2017/18 season, with a record of one win, one draw and a defeat.

“This could easily be the final and that would come as no surprise to anybody”, stated Carlo Ancelotti in his pre-match press conference. The Italian coach has travelled with all the members of his squad, with a notable return for Karim Benzema, who was also on media duty and commented that:“It's a big game and I'm here to help my team”.

Since the beginning of the group phase in September, the French side have been widely tipped to win the crown. The attacking duo formed by Kylian Mbappé (four) and Lionel Messi (five) has weighed in with nine of PSG's 13 goals in this season's  Champions League.
