This campaign will not have a champions and the next edition will start on October 1st with the same 18 teams.
The Euroleague has announced the cancellation of the 2019/20 competition after a virtual meeting of its Executive Board of Shareholders on Monday. According to its statement, among the considerations for taking this decision are "the health and safety of athletes, fans, staff and members; the different evolution of COVID-19 in the territories; a reduced training schedule compared to the approved minimum of three weeks; and the decision not to modify the self-imposed deadlines for the end of the competitions".

Furthermore, the Euroleague assures that "in accordance with the continuous values of integrity and sporting fairness, the Executive Board has decided not to recognize any team as the 2019/20 champion". On the other hand, they announced that the next edition will have the participation of the same 18 teams and that it will start on October 1st. However, they specify that they "will continue to monitor the evolution of COVID-19, staying in close contact with governments and public health authorities to ensure optimal conditions for all".

Bertomeu: "We have to put people's health first"
Jordi Bertomeu, Euroleague's CEO, explained: "This is the most difficult decision we have had to make in our 20 year history. Due to reasons beyond our control, we have been forced to interrupt the season. This comes after two and a half months in which all the interested parties exhausted all the possible ways to try to offer a complete season. We had a lot of motivation to resume the 2019/20 season, but in such an exceptional situation, we have to put people's health first and above all other interests".
