Real Madrid visits Río Breogán this evening in matchday 31 in the leagueChus Mateo's team seeks to continue its streak of 18 consecutive wins and mathematically secure top spot in the Regular League with three games remaining.
With a two-win advantage plus the basket average over second-placed La Laguna Tenerife, the Madridistas have their first opportunity to seal first place, which would give them home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. Chus Mateo's team, who are unbeaten in the league for more than five months, have won their last nine away days. In their path is Río Breogán, who still has a chance to be in the top eight. They are eleventh, three wins behind.
It will be a demanding encounter, very different from the reverse fixture in which Madrid won by 37 points at the Movistar Arena (106-69). Río Breogán is a different team, with novelties in Grant, Arturs Kurucs and Touré joining Nakic, Vila, Sakho and company. Moreover, the Pazo Provincial de Deportes de Lugo is a tough court. The Galicians are coming off an away win over Baxi Manresa, including a first half in which they scored 59 points.
Madrid will try to make their roster depth count
Campazzo (15.4), Musa (14.7), Hezonja (14.5) and Tavares (13.8) are all averaging double figures in PIR this season. It was the Argentinian point guard, along with Llull, who led last year's 73-80 win on the Galician court. Another outside player, Andrés Feliz, is enjoying his best form since he joined Madrid. Last Sunday, he had his best game of the season against Valencia Basket (20 points and 26 in PIR). After today's game, the Whites will visit Baxi Manresa, host Coviran Granada and finish away against Casademont Zaragoza.
