- Matchday 19
A good start for Real Madrid, who soon took the initiative of a first quarter in which they set off with a great offensive pace, going to 26 points, 20 of them between Carroll and Deck (9 and 11 respectively). In just two minutes they were already 2-12 ahead. A lead that was even extended to 14 with the 10-24 with 8 minutes on the clock against a Baxi Manresa that remained afloat thanks to a 7-0 run at the end of this period, coinciding with the introduction of Vaulet (17-26, min. 10).
The match evened out
The Whites dropped off in the second quarter and the home side took advantage to level the score. They stretched the advantage again to a maximum of 14 (21-35, min. 13) before the performance in attack dropped again, lacking the fluidity of the start. Manresa responded with a 17-2 in their favor, led again by Vaulet (13 points; the same as Deck) to tie the game at 38 each. Two free throws by Llull allowed Laso's team to go ahead in a first half in which Reyes reached 600 matches in the league (38-40).
Real Madrid dominated the rebound but were still unlucky on the trey. Only three at this point. Circumstance that limited the scoring and prevented them from overcoming the aggressive home defense. Kravish, for the home side, and Tavares, for the Whites, maintained the pulse on the paint that supported their teams in attack. The whole third quarter was a continuous alternation on the scoreboard, but the high number of Real Madrid losses led Manresa to go into the last quarter 5 in the lead (62-57, min. 30).
Great last quarter for the Whites
Manresa's counter-attack was hurting Real Madrid, who went 7 down in the 32nd minute at 66-59. But Laso's side pressed back and Campazzo and Carroll pulled the strings at the front. With a 2-10 they neutralized the disadvantage and the match entered the last two minutes 73-71 in favor of Manresa. The Whites showed their best defensive display, preventing their opponents from scoring in the remaining time (only two free throws). A 2-9, with the Argentine point guard, Deck and Thompkins scoring, turned the match around in the final quarter with a 13-23 run that was definitive in sealing the 15th victory Laso's team (75-80, min. 40).
