Real Madrid - Borussia Dortmund

Ramos takes his place amongst Real Madrid's top 10 appearance-makers

NEWS | 06/12/2017

"We're on the right track to achieve our targets", stated the captain, who drew level with Guti on 542 appearances for Real Madrid.
After starting tonight's match against Borussia Dortmund at the Bernabéu, Sergio Ramos racked up his 542th appearance for Real Madrid to take his place amongst the club's top 10 appearance-makers. The Whites' captain has moved level with Guti, whose appearances came between the 1995/6 and 2009/10 campaigns, and the next club legend in Ramos's sights is Míchel (559 appearances). The top three spots in these rankings are occupied by Raúl (741), Iker Casillas (725) and Sanchís (710).

Sergio Ramos spoke to the press following the clash with the German side: “It was a very intense game, especially in the first half an hour. Our level dropped a bit after that and they were able to take their chances and get back on terms. Our persistence ultimately paid off and we’ve picked up a morale-boosting win to finish the group stage. I’ll have to wear the mask for a while yet, but I decided not to use it for tonight so I’d be a bit more comfortable”.

On the whole, the group stage has been good.

"You’ve got to beat the best teams if you want to win the Champions League. The group stage has been good on the whole and now it’s just a case of waiting for the last-16 draw. We have to keep improving and produce our best performances to find that consistency we're looking for. Things don't always work out as you want them to, but we're on the right track to achieve our targets. We'll now just have to see we get on".

A Real Madrid legend
Ramos has risen up to 10th position in these standings in this, his 13th season at Real Madrid. During his spell at the club, the defender has showcased his fighting spirit, quality and ability to score crucial goals, with the unforgettable header in the Décima final featuring amongst his 69 goals. Meanwhile, as the team's captain he has managed a historic feat after leading the side to back-to-back Champions League crowns. His trophy haul is amongst the best of the club's legendary players and includes three European Cups, two Club World Cup, three UEFA Super Cup crowns, four LaLiga titles, two Copas del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups.
