AN OVERHEAD KICK FOR THE HISTORY BOOKS

3 Real Madrid vs. 1 Liverpool

Real Madrid Liverpool

The road to Kiev started with a Whites home win against APOEL. Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham were the other opponents in the Group Stage, in which Real Madrid finished second. In the knock-out matches, the Whites beat the 2018 champions from France (PSG), Italy (Juventus) and Germany (Bayern Munich), sealing a place in their fourth final in five seasons.

Thirty-seven years later, Real Madrid took revenge on Liverpool in a final of the European Cup. The injuries to Salah and Carvajal were the main stories from an even first half. The second half was dominated by the Whites. Benzema's goal saw a quick reply from Mané. However, Bale’s introduction was a decisive moment in the final for Real Madrid. The Welshman scored a brace, one of them a spectacular overhead kick, which will be remembered as one of the best goals in a Champions League final. Four European Cups in five years for a legendary team.
