3 Real Madrid vs. 0 Valencia

Real Madrid Valencia

Real Madrid were back in a Champions League final just two years after their last and with one objective: to avenge their defeat by Liverpool in Paris in 1981.

The Whites not only won but did so convincingly: 3-0 after 90 minutes, through a display of serious and effective football that did not give Valencia a look-in.

The players under the command of Vicente del Bosque opened the scoring with a Morientes header just before the break. In the second half, a spectacular volley from McManaman and a brilliant run from Raúl put the final to bed. Real Madrid polished their crown and showed it off to Europe in an incomparable setting.

Trivia

It was the first final in the history of the Champions League between two Spanish teams.

Iker Casillas played in the first final of his career in Paris, just a few days after his 19th birthday.

On their way to Paris, Madrid knocked out both Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
