"It was a really hard-fought win, we had a lot of chances in the first half", commented the coach.
Real Madrid remain in the hunt for the LaLiga title and Zinedine Zidane took to the media room at the Alfredo Di Stéfano following the win over Osasuna to share his thoughts on the game: “I come away with a really good feeling. It was a hard-fought win. We created a number of chances to have scored in the first half and when that happens in 45 minutes and you fail to score, you can become angry and get a bit stressed but that ultimately wasn’t the case for us. We continued to play our game and were patient enough to keep plugging away and the goal duly came”.

“They knew we’d come out the way we did in the first half. They defended as a deep unit in central areas and we had to use the wide areas and play with great width and with the four players on the outside as well. That’s what we did in the second half”.

“I’m delighted for my players. When a team plays as we did in the first half, in which we had five chances to score and didn’t convert them it’s a bit frustrating for them. However, at the break I told them that it would come if we were patient and kept playing and we did that. I was really pleased for them because when you score it’s a relief and that was the same for me too. The gesture of satisfaction was for my players. They’re there fighting and it’s not easy because the opposition always go all out, play their game and battle and it’s not easy. There’s a massive sense of satisfaction amongst my players”.

Battle for LaLiga & Champions League honours
“It’s true that we’ve been through a lot, but that’s that. We’re in the mix, with our struggles and tonight’s were another three points. We’re in the hunt with four games to go. We’re going to fight until the end and we’re in with a chance. I’m not saying we’re going to win it, but we’ll be giving our all. I can guarantee that. I’m really happy, I really am. I couldn’t be any happier. The academy graduates also bring their energy to the team and that’s good for us. We’ve been competing for nine months and we’re in the mix”.

“Let’s just focus on today’s game. We’re pleased to get the three points. I’m pleased for my players and with the effort they’ve made. We hope Rafa’s [Varane] injury isn’t too serious, but right now I can’t tell you anything. I spoke to him and he told me it wasn’t too serious and I hope that’s the way it is. We’re just thinking about what we did today. We have to enjoy today’s win and then we’ll move our focus to Wednesday”.

“I think he did well. As you said, it’s the first time he’s started and he’s played nearly 70 minutes. He did well, especially in the position just behind Karim. They worked hard and I’m pleased with the performance”.

Squad rotations
“There are loads of games. Luka and Toni were rested today and that’s very important. Antonio Blanco came in and he did really well. He did a good job. It was a hard-fought win. I’m pleased for all the players because it’s not easy to do what we’ve been doing in every game. We kept another clean sheet and scored two goals. We have to be pleased about that. It was a good win today”.

Team’s fitness
“Today we were very good physically and mentally because when we finished the game we were already thinking about recovery. We know that we play every three days and all the details are important when it comes to recovering our strength and that's what we're taking into every game. Today we were physically very good. Let's enjoy this victory, we’ll rest and then we'll play again on Wednesday".
