The socio-sporting school benefits over 100 young people in the city with the support of the Salesian Missions. The Real Madrid Foundation coaching team has travelled to the island of Mindelo in Cape Verde to deliver the football training program, For a REAL education: Values and sport. They will be assisting the coaches of the socio-sporting school which has been running there since 2012 in collaboration with the Salesian Missions.
The aim of these training days is to continue to educate the coaches on the basis of the Foundation's methodology. On this occasion, there was an emphasis on the inclusion of values in the training sessions and in competition. They also covered the importance of planning training sessions to achieve objectives and creating the optimum conditions to allow the student to drive his or her own learning process.
It's one of the first socio-sporting schools run by the Foundation in Africa.
This was the fifth course given at the school. It was attended by the school's three coaches, as well as 24 others. Among them, were physical education teachers, who will be able to apply aspects of what they learned in the training to their daily efforts across different schools.
Pioneering project in Africa
The Mindelo school is one of the Foundation's longest-running projects in Africa, with 80 beneficiaries in the football section and a further 50 in basketball. There is also a high percentage of girls in attendance, at nearly 50%. Besides the sporting activity, throughout the year, the beneficiaries receive school support, academic guidance and periodic annual medical check-ups. They also enjoy a range of complementary cultural activities. This was the first country to have a female coach travel from Madrid to take part in a one-month training program.
