Varane crowned world champion with France after an excellent final final against Modric and Kovacic's Croatia.
Varane’s French team become world champions after beating Modric and Kovacic’s Croatian national team in the Russian final. The Real Madrid centre back returned to lead Deschamps’ defence in the 4-2 win. For their part, the two Whites’ midfielders finished World Cup runners-up with their national team.

Modric and Kovacic finished runners-up at the World Cup. In the decisive match against France, the Croatian captain started, while Kovacic did not play. The Balkans were top in Group D, beating Argentina, Nigeria and Iceland. Then, they won in the second round against Denmark, they beat Russia in the quarter-finals and England in the semi-finals. Modric was chosen player of the match three times and scored two goals.

The Spanish side, including Ramos, Isco, Carvajal, Asensio and Nacho, were knocked out on penalties against the hosts, Russia. Hierro's side qualified for the last 16 after topping Group B ahead of Portugal, Iran and Morocco. Nacho and Isco have both scored in the tournament.

Cristiano Ronaldo started for Portugal and played the full 90 minutes against Uruguay in the last 16. The game finished with a 2-1 loss for Portugal. The madridista bows out of the World Cup having scored four goals in the Group Stages.

Morocco netted the first goals of their World Cup campaign in their meeting with Spain and picked up their only point in the group stage. Achraf featured in all three games but Morocco were unable to come through Group B

Keylor Navas was his side's number 1 in all three games, his team managing a draw in their final clash with Switzerland. However, Costa Rica did not make it through to the last-16 after losing to Serbia and Brazil.

Germany fell short of a spot in the last-16 as they lost to South Korea in the final Group F game. Kroos netted once and started all three games, but his Germany side failed to advance past the group stage.
