Zidane: "Celta are doing well and we know we're in for a tough game"

"It's in our interest to play at a high tempo and we'll have to do so right from the off", insisted the Whites' coach.
Zinedine Zidane addressed the press gathered inside the media room at Real Madrid City to offer his thoughts ahead of Sunday's encounter against Celta Vigo (8:45pm CET), with the Whites' coach previewing the LaLiga clash in the following terms: "We're up against what are strong opponents in this league. They work hard and have some good players. We know just how tough it's going to be, but what I'm most bothered about is what we're going to try and do. I don't think that they'll rotate their squad with the Copa del Rey in mind. In the first leg against Barcelona they made a couple of changes and perhaps those rested players will feature tomorrow".

"Football is made up of technical, physical and tactical elements. We were in Copa del Rey action the other day, as were Celta, and the physical side of things will play an important role in this game. We'll have to see how we cope with things. What I'm looking for us to do is to play at a good tempo right from the off, because it's in our interest to play at a high tempo and then we'll have to look at the finer details to see how we set up".

Absence of Ramos
"Not having him in the team means we lose a great deal because he's our leader and captain. We also want him to be in the team but these things happen. On Thursday he felt some discomfort, he went for a scan and that picked something up. We don't want to be taking any risks. It's a long old season and we want him to recovery as soon as possible. Let's hope that it's just a minor injury".

Muscular injuries
"These things happen in football. There are injured players in every squad you look at. It's not anything to do with how you train. Everyone lives their own life and has peaks and troughs in terms of form. That's the way life goes and we could apply some of that to the injuries. Injuries are something that can happen and that'll never change. We see it with all of the teams. We've had injuries to some key players and that's why there's more talk of it here than at other clubs".

We've always been competitive at this stage of the season and we'll have to show that again.

"We know that in the crucial moments this club's values come to the fore. My players and I enjoy the times when you've got to deliver and show yourselves to be strong. There's no margin for error and that's something that really motivates us. We've always been competitive at this stage of the season and we'll have to show that again this year. That's the aim and it's part of this club's DNA.

Praise for Cristiano Ronaldo
"I can't possibly imagine Real Madrid without Cristiano Ronaldo. He's a Real Madrid player and wants to end his career here".

Strengthening the squad in the winter transfer window
"I don't see any issue with signing players in the winter. As always, I'm happy with my squad. I don't need a goalkeeper at the minute. We'll have to see whether there are any changes in June. Perhaps there might come a time when somebody will come in, but right now I can't see that happening. I don't speak about players who don't play for this club and I respect my own players".

"Up until 31 January players can join the club. That's how the window works. For the time being, I don't want anybody, because I'm happy with my squad. Last year I didn't get asked these questions because Real Madrid were doing fine and playing well. At times, when a team is going through a bad patch, there's talk of signing players, but I'm not like that as a coach".

"I'll speak to the players and we'll make the best possible decisions, but right now I need all of them and I'll need them right until the end of the season. We've got that many games that I need everyone available in all of the competitions. There'll always be some players that play more than others, but they all get the chance to show that they're important members of this squad. We're now heading into a key period in every respect. We've got knockout games in the Copa del Rey and the Champions League and want to make up some ground in LaLiga".

Champions League tie against PSG
"It's still a long way off yet and it's something that's in our thoughts. The best way to prepare for the game is by playing well tomorrow. It'll be an important game for everyone and will be a fantastic occasions. However, we've got 11 matches before then and a lot of things will happen between now and then".
