Training for coaches at Foundation schools in Ivory Coast
More than 400 children have been learning sport and values since 2015 with the support of SED (Solidarity, Education and Development).
The teachers and coaches at the social sports schools run by the Real Madrid Foundation in Korohogo and Bouaké (Ivory Coast), in collaboration with SED (Solidarity, Education and Development), have received on-site training in the methodology: For a Real Education: Values and Sport. These social sports schools cater for more than 400 children from the Saint Marcellin Champagnat schools, run by the Marist Brothers in Côte d'Ivoire. The project is carried out in a region where access to education and health care is very difficult, especially for girls.
The football, basketball and values training sessions based on the Real Madrid Foundation's methodology were aimed at 16 participants, who had the opportunity to implement everything they had learnt. Everyone was able to examine in each case the possible challenges faced by the participants and what it means for them to learn values by means of sport in order to have a future with more opportunities.
Positive impact
The children benefiting from the social sports school experience the instability of the country, which translates into high unemployment, a population living in extreme poverty and a problem of child labour that leads to a lot of insecurity. Ever since the implementation of the social sports schools, there has been a very positive impact on academic performance due to the students' and teachers' motivation, which has resulted in a higher quality of education. In addition to sporting activities, pupils receive remedial classes and a snack after training sessions.
