Today sees Real Madrid bring the curtain down on a mini-marathon of six games in the space of 15 days as they face off against Joventut. This run of games yielded a clean sweep of wins, following the three triumphs over Maccabi in the EuroLeague playoff and the successes recorded over Río Breogán and Coosur Betis in the domestic competition. This evening sees the Whites host the Penya, their nearest pursuers in the league table, at the WiZink Center in what promises to be another very challenging match-up.

Following a hectic end of April for our boys, May promises to be an equally intense month. The team faces four match-ups Joventut, Obradoiro, UCAM Murcia and Herbalife Gran Canaria ahead of the Final Four in Belgrade and the start of the league playoffs. In this first match-up, second place is on the line. Madrid 21-9 has won a game more than the guests 20-10 and has a 19-point lead in the basket average thanks to the 71-90 triumph secured in Badalona. Pablo Laso’s charges come into the game in fine fettle after having prevailed in their last five games in the space of 10 days. Meanwhile, Joventut are in good shape themselves after having recorded wins in nine of their last 11 league match-ups.
The Penya have regained their status as one the league’s top sides this year. The blend of youth of experience is one of the team’s hallmarks and the guests play with great energy and balance and boast mobile players on both the outside and the inside. Tomic, Ribas and Willis are their leading lights in offense, whilst Joel Parra comes into the game having clinched the 2022 Best Young Player Award.

The guests will be up against a Madrid side that is firing on all cylinders after having regained its defensive solidity allowing an average of 70 points in the last five games. Meanwhile, the Whites are displaying good fluidity in offense, with LlullWilliams-GossYabusele and Poirier all in fine form. Our boys will be raring to achieve a 22nd league win of the campaign in this one.
