The coaches of the socio-sports schools in Baqa'a, Irbid, Madaba and Fuheis (Jordan) have participated in face-to-face training sessions in football and values imparted by the Real Madrid Foundation. The collaboration with the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem began in 2016, and since 2019, they have provided care and services to refugee minors from UNRWA, the UN Agency for Refugees in the Palestinian Territories. The schools currently have more than 200 beneficiaries at risk of exclusion thanks to the support of Mohammed bin Rashid Global Initiatives (MBRGI).
This was the first face-to-face training in the area following the pandemic, and two courses were held to deepen the methodology of the Real Madrid Foundation: For a Real Education: Values and Sport. The enthusiasm of the participating coaches, educators, monitors and training staff made it an enormously rewarding experience for everyone.
The socio-sports schools together with the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem are a means of social integration aimed at promoting coexistence between Arab migrant communities and minors of different religious denominations. In the case of UNRWA, the programme benefits Palestinian refugee children for whom sport is an effective tool for channelling anxiety, stress and aggression in a positive way and improving their self-esteem. The project has had a strong impact on the girls too, who now have the opportunity to play sports in the open air thanks to this intervention.
