Today marks 65 years since Real Madrid got their hands on a second Copa Latina. On 23 June 1957, the team led by José Villalonga clinched the title when they beat Benfica in the final (1-0) thanks to a single Alfredo Di Stéfano strike. The madridistas had got the better of Milan in the semifinals of the tournament, which was played at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The trophy saw Real Madrid closed out an incredible 1956/57 season in which they also won LaLiga and their second European Cup, while being the last ever Copa Latina victors. In 1955, they had their first taste of success in the international competition, which pitted teams from France, Spain, Portugal and Italy against each other.
