Today marks 40 years since the Real Madrid basketball team got their hands on the Club World Cup in Sao Paulo. On the 5th of July 1981, our team got the better of hosts EC Sirio in the final, winning 109-83. It was the icing on the cake of a hugely impressive tournament, which saw the madridistas go unbeaten throughout.

Led by Lolo Sainz, Madrid displayed their superiority from the very early stages of the game, racing into a comfortable lead over the Brazilian team at half-time (54-36). The deficit increased further up to the end of the clash, with Delibasic (33 points), Brabender (28) and Rullán (23) the standout performers.
