With his two goals in the final, the Whites’ forward recorded twelve in this year’s tournament.
Not only did Real Madrid make history in Cardiff by becoming the first team to win the Champions League in two consecutive years. Cristiano Ronaldo also had his name written in gold as a result of his excellence in the competition. The Portuguese forward has become the first player to be the Champions League top scorer for five consecutive years.
He has done it in the 2012/13 season (12 goals), 2013/14 (17, tournament record), 2014/15 (10), 2015/16 (16) and 2016/17 (12). On top of this, Cristiano was also top scorer in the Champions League in the 2007/08 campaign with Manchester United (8 goals), making it six times that he’s been the top scorer in the competition.
Top scorer in history
Ronaldo is also the top scorer in the history of the Champions League with 105 goals. He is the only player that has scored more than one hundred goals in the top continental competition. Behind him are Messi (94), Raúl (71), Van Nistelrooy (56) and Benzema (51).
