"I am an ambitious player, with character, and want to give everything"
An academy player fulfilling a dream. Willy Hernangómez is returning to Real Madrid after two years on loan to CB Sevilla. The center from Madrid joined the Youth B side at the Madrid Academy in 2008 and continued on, progressing on to the Youth A, Junior and EBA league teams. He made his debut for the first team during the 2012-13 campaign and his trophy cabinet with Madrid includes a league title and a Super Cup. He is from a family with a basketball background: his father was part of Real Madrid and his mother was European champion with Spain.
The maturity he acquired at Sevilla was key in ensuring his return to the Whites. He did not just have quality playing time there, but also showed his potential on several occasions. He was selected in the Liga Endesa 2014-15 best young starting five, was best player on matchday 10 (29 points, 13 rebounds and a PIR of 43 against Barcelona) and was MVP on one of the Eurocup game days.
With the Spanish side, Hernangómez was European Under-18 champion in 2011 and won silver in the European Under-20 tournament in 2014. He was picked for the ideal starting five in both tournaments.
