Twenty-second anniversary of Redondo's backheel at Old Trafford en route to club's eighth European Cup crown
Real Madrid claimed a 3-2 away win over Manchester United in a game that will forever be remembered for the Argentine's moment of genius.
On 19 April 2000, Real Madrid overcame Manchester United at Old Trafford in the second leg of the sides’ Champions League quarter-final tie en route to capturing the club’s eighth European Cup crown in Paris. The game remains etched in the memories of the madridista faithful on account of the win and the sublime piece of skill conjured up by Redondo down the left flank to set up our team’s third goal. The Argentine showcased all of his quality and physical strength to produce a backheel and a nutmeg on Henning Berg to reach the by-line and tee up Raúl.

Our side’s first two goals came courtesy of a Roy Keane own goal and a Raúl effort, before Redondo’s masterpiece saw Raúl complete his double. Although Manchester United reduced the arrears through strikes from David Beckham and Paul Scholes, the madridistas advanced and after knocking Bayern out in the semis, they lifted the club’s eighth European Cup following victory over Valencia in the showpiece.
