Valverde: "It was important for us to win because our rivals had slipped up"

NEWS STORY. 14/03/2022

"We're feeling confident and head into the run-in with good results and that's helping the team continue to grow", added Lucas Vázquez.

Real Madrid secured maximum points in the away trip to Mallorca and at the full-time whistle, Fede Valverde had the following to say: “It was important for us to get the win tonight. We knew that the sides directly behind us had slipped up. It was a tough game, but after applying a high press, we managed to get in front and the game then opened up”.

“We knew that they would put us under pressure and would have the support of their fans, which really spurred them on. I think that we played some very good stuff, although we didn't manage to convert our chances. However, as I've said, we made the breakthrough in the second half”.

 Refereeing display
“With the one on Rodrygo, I feel sorry for him and just hope it's nothing serious and that he recovers soon if there is something there. It's part and parcel of football and there are things I’m not going to comment on with the referee. I just focus on what I've got to do, I don't think it was a yellow card and that put me at a disadvantage for the rest of the game. I fully respect everything that the referee does”.

Injured players
“Whenever a teammate picks up an injury, there's always concern amongst the whole group. We're a great team in which we all pull in the same direction and whoever plays will be ready”.

Lucas Vázquez: "We're going into the run-in full of hope"
"We've come away with the win, which is the most important thing for us. We're full of confidence at the minute. We're going into the run-in full of hope, excitement and we're getting good results, and that's helping the team continue to grow".

"We'll see how the injured players are, hopefully it's nothing serious at all. We'll see how they progress during the week, hopefully it's just a scare and that they're not injuries".

El Clásico
"It's a game that we've got our eyes on. El Clásico in front of our fans is always a special one. We'll work hard over the next few days to try to prepare for it as well as possible. We're going out for the win".
