"Chelsea can cause problems at any time and we'll have to stick together and defend well", added the defender.
Varane spoke to the media in the press room at the Di Stéfano stadium ahead of the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Chelsea (Tuesday, 9pm CEST): "We're in the Champions League semi-finals, it's very demanding physically, tactically and technically at this stage of the competition. Small details are very important. We have to be well prepared for the game in order to put in a complete performance. We're going in to the game looking for the win, we will need to give everything on the pitch to get a positive result".
"We know that this season is very tough and demanding on a physical level. We are defensively strong because we all work hard, in attack we have players with real quality and we always cause our opponents a lot of problems. We have to find ways to score more goals and hurt them. We're confident in our players. We can be more direct in the final third and get into the box more. It's important to be fress physically, we're confident in what we're going to do from now until the end of the season".
Champions League without Real Madrid
"I'm focused on tomorrow's game and the end of the season. I've won four Champions Leagues and it's a competition I always want to play in".
"They're a very complete team, with players that have different qualities up front. They have different ways in which they can play, but the important thing is that we adapt well to what we're going to come up against. They have pace up front, strong in the air and the ability to play with a deeper block or a more advanced one. They can cause problems at any time in the game and we're going to have to stick together and defend well. The best way is to defend together and deny them space.
"We're focused on what we can control, that's the important thing. We all have to be fully focussed on what we're doing and find the best way to win the game. We can't control the rest. We're focused on our job".

"Thibaut is having a really good season and we have to adapt to the changes in the system. I really like the challenge of adapting my game, becoming more and more complete, playing on the left, on the right, with a three-man defence, in the middle... It's a question of adapting. We all know each other very well, we know each others qualities. We need the whole team when it comes to defending, we're do very well defensively, we're helping each other together and that's very much appreciated. It's very important that we all work together as a team".

Personal form
"It's a special season for everyone due to playing lots of games. I was able to rest when I was at home with COVID-19, but I'm always trying to improve. I'm 28 years old now and every year is a learning experience".

We've got a very demanding end to the season, some very nice challenges that really inspire us.

"I've played a lot this season and I'm always trying to improve, to have a more complete game and to help my teammates. There's not long left and we're very excited and looking to finish the season well. There's 15 points left to play for in LaLiga, we're in the Champions League semi-finals and that's very exciting".
"My focus is on the end of the season, focussed clearly on that. We're in a very exciting period and we have to be fully focussed on the games coming up".
Controversy in football and a demanding fixture list
"We're not angry. Football is going through a time when we're confronted with a lot of questions, we have things to improve. We know that in any situation, when there's a problem, the best way to overcome it is to work together, to look for solutions together. The players all have their say, the fixtures list situation is complex. The best way to find positive solutions and improve is to talk and for the football world to be united".
"We talk a lot. It's always difficult to get into the starting eleven when he didn't have much momentum but now he's playing more consistently. He's a very good player. I've also been in his position, where you don't get many minutes to show what you can do and that's always difficult. He has high expectations of himself and we have to understand that it's not easy, he's doing well".

"He's got a good mentality and always works hard and never gives up. He's always in a good mood and in good spirits. He needs consistency to show his qualities, we see him on a daily basis and know his quality that he's been showing in the games. It's very good to play with players like that who're always positive and who give everything when it's their turn to play".
Message to the fans
"I'm one hundred percent committed to the team, I really want to give everything. We've got a very demanding end to the season, some very nice challenges that really inspire us. I'm focused on giving everything out on the pitch".
"He's really motivated, I've spoken to him. Every player is excited to play in a semi-final and if you're playing against your former club, it's even more of a motivation. He knows the club and the team very well. We know Eden's quality, he's keen to show it on the pitch and to help the team".
"It's difficult to get back on track after COVID-19, but I think I've done well. I rested a bit and got back into the pace of the game gradually. I've worked hard to get back on the pitch and play in matches like tomorrow's".
