The Champions League anthem will once again ring around the Santiago Bernabéu tonight. After a two-and-a-half-month wait, Real Madrid return to Europe's elite club competition to face off against Manchester City in the first leg of the sides' last-16 tie (9pm CET), with both players and fans hoping to savour yet another great night of European action.

Following a group stage in which they pitted their wits against PSG, Galatasaray and Brugge, Zinedine Zidane's charges welcome the reigning Premier League champions, with City having captured the domestic title in both of the past two seasons. We're now at stage of the Champions League campaign in which errors can prove very costly and, although the tie is played over 180 minutes, it's vital that the team records a good result to take into the second leg.

Real Madrid's record against Manchester City reads two wins and draws apiece.

To claim an advantage in the tie, the Whites will have to produce a strong, all-round display, as Zidane commented in his pre-match press conference: "We'll have to put in a good performance and give our all because, at the end of the day, that's what it's all about". The boss has named a squad of 19 players to take on the English outfit.

Manchester City progressed to the last 16 after winning Group C, ahead of Atalanta, Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Zagreb. The last meeting between Madrid and Pep Guardiola's side saw the Whites secure a 1-0 win to advance to the Milan final, where the madridistas lifted the Undécima.
