See video

News | 22/10/2019 | Alberto Navarro (Estambul)

The team go in search of the three points in Istanbul to take a major step in Group A.
Real Madrid are back in Champions League action. The Whites head to the Ali Sami Yen Stadium six seasons on from their last visit as they look to secure a win that would see them take an important step in the Group A standings (9pm CET). "We've got another game to show that we want to turn things around. We're ready, we want to and I know that we're going to produce a great performance", commented Zinedine Zidane in his pre-match press conference.

The French boss has named a 21-man squad for the encounter. One man who features is Toni Kroos, who returns following injury and, if involved, would rack up his 100th Champions League appearance (58 of which have come during his time at Real Madrid).

Madrid ran out 6-1 winners in the sides' last meeting at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium.

This is the teams' eighth meeting in the European Cup and the head-to-head record is favourable from a Real Madrid perspective: four wins and three defeats. The Whites claimed a 6-1 win when the teams last faced off at the Ali Sami Yen. Karim Benzema, who bagged a brace, and Isco were the two members of the current squad on target that night.

The opposition
Madrid face a Galatasaray side who completely dominate the domestic scene in Turkey. Indeed, this season the hosts have already lifted the Turkish Super Cup and are the holders of the league title and the Turkish Cup. The Turks come into the game in good spiritisafter recording three important points in Friday's 3-2 triumph over Sivasspor. That win snapped a run of three games without scoring and extended a record that clearly reflects their dominance in Turkish football: 40 league games without defeat at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium (W33, D7).
