NEWS | 30/09/2019

At 17 years and 6 months he got 13 points, 10 rebounds and 24 PIR in the Real Madrid win over UCAM Murcia.
Usman Garuba has started the season in style, from record to record. In the first match against Joventut he became the youngest player to start a game in the white jersey, yesterday he again surpassed Doncic as the youngest to get a double-double in the ACB. At 17 years and 6 months he got 13 points and 10 rebounds in the victory against UCAM Murcia, three months before Doncic (17 and 9) and nine before Ricky Rubio (18 and 6). In addition, he is the youngest player to record 10 rebounds in a match.

In the second game of the League, Garuba confirmed he is made of something different. The Real Madrid player is breaking record every game. He was the best player of Laso's team in the 97-69 win against Murcia. The pivot finished with 24 PIR in 22:17 minutes of play, becoming the second youngest to reach that figure behind Ricky Rubio. His 13 points came with a 6 out of 9 in two-point shots; and 1 out of 1 in free throws. He took 10 rebounds, eight of them defensive, gave one assist and made two blocks. He started for the second time in a row in the league.

Praise for his performance
Both Pablo Laso and Facundo Campazzo had praise for him after yesterday's game. The coach said: “He’s a player that nobody doubts about his intensity, he is capable of doing a lot out on the field: rebounds, dribbling, making open shots…and transmits a lot of energy in the game. We value what he gives us and we hope he continues to grow as a player. Today it has stood out for the numbers and we’re happy that people from our academy can come up and contribute things to the team”.

For his part, the MVP of the Super Cup explained: “Garuba is infectious. You see his face and his body language and it spreads to everyone: on the rebound, he scores points, is in danger on the trey...He is a very complete player. He is not afraid of anything and is very confident in his game, and he helps us a lot when it comes to defending and filling holes. He is 17 years old and he has to enjoy that period”.
