NEWS | 13/06/2018 | Edu BuenoThe Whites are looking to draw first blood at the WiZink Center (9:00pm CEST).
This will be Real Madrid's twentieth league final, seventh consecutive. They haven't missed out since the 2010-11 season. Since then, they have won three titles, the last one came two seasons ago. Baskonia breaks its eight-year absence from the title run-in. The two best teams in the Regular League; the best playoff attack versus the best defense; and the historic Whites comeback with a three-pointer from Herreros, in their only prior final meeting. This makes the final all the more attractive.
Laso's team have home court advantage. Today and Friday, they will have the Palacio behind them, and this has so far helped the team to not lose any league game in 2018. They also have a 5-0 record in the playoffs and have beaten the Vitoria based side in both of the two matches this year at the WiZink Center (101-89 in the league and 75-73 in the Euroleague). But Baskonia are not far behind. They only lost six on their way to the final, beating two Euroleague teams in Unicaja and Barcelona, with style to boot.
Defense and outside shooting
Baskonia have these two great dangers. They are good in defense (conceding 70.6 points per game) and effective on the three (41.4%), with an arsenal of strong scorers like Huertas, Beaubois, Timma, Voigtmann and especially, Janning. On the inside, they have points and force, led by the center Shengelia, who is in the form of his life. This will be a baptism of fire for Real Madrid, but they always give their best on these big nights.
