Benzema: “I knew what the keeper was going to do for the goal”

“We’ve achieved a historic feat and this trophy is for our fans”, added Marcelo.

Several Real Madrid players spoke to the press following the final whistle to express their joy at winning La Decimotercera. Benzema, author of the game’s opening goal, reflected: “I put pressure on the keeper and read what he was going to do. I knew he was going to do it. These things happen in football, it happened in the semi-finals and now in the final. Us strikers are here to score goals. Madrid have got another fantastic forward who scores a lot of goals in Ronaldo. I’m here to score as well and to help the team by providing assists and moving around to occupy the defence”.

“This is a big club and I always work hard for my team and to show that I belong here. Why would I leave the best club in the world? I’m here to win”.

Marcelo: “We’re going to keep going, next year we’ll try and get another one. This team has no limits. I’m thrilled, because what we’ve achieved is a historic feat. The fans having made this trip is just priceless. Today we showed out on the pitch the affection we feel for the fans, and this trophy is for them. We wouldn’t have made history without our fans”.

Ronaldo: “It was a tough match, but we knew we were better than Liverpool. We played well and we beat them. We’ve made history, which is what we set out to do. Every final is difficult. They flew out the blocks but we’re deserved winners. We could have scored more”.

Cristiano: "It was the most difficult Champions League campaign but we've shown we are the best".

“This is what we hoped for, we knew we were making history. This team deserves it, the coaching staff and the people who have helped us. It was a challenging Champions League campaign, so I’m very happy and now it’s time to enjoy it. It was perhaps the most challenging Champions League because we played some top sides and we showed we’re the best”.

Asensio: "We produced a great performance and head home with the Champions League trophy in tow. Every final is always tough. They were quick up top and broke well on the counter They had clearly analysed us very closely. We overcame that and turned in a fine display".
